Our peaceful five-bedroom cedar-shingled house, which we re-built in 2017, is situated in the rural north of the island of Martha’s Vineyard. It is located at the end of a private lane with wonderful views over a saltwater pond and the ocean beyond.
The house has a large living room and kitchen/dining room, both with sliding door access to a deck that runs along the whole front of the house. There are large dining tables in and outside, a sheltered patio and smaller dining area behind the house with a large Weber gas grill, and an Indian metal fire-pit for toasting marshmallows.
Most rooms are ocean facing, on first floor level with sliding doors to the deck, apart from the second-floor master (super-king) bedroom which is accessed via its own staircase from the living room. The ensuite master bathroom has a large shower and a roll-top bath with ocean views. In addition to the master bedroom, there is one ensuite Queen, one Double and one Twin bedroom and a mezzanine attic with four twin beds.
The furnishings are simple and tasteful, with a combination of contemporary and antique pieces, both European and American in origin. All the bathrooms are fitted with ‘Waterworks’ fittings.
There is a selection of kayaks and a stand up paddle board for launching on the pond, from where it is possible, if you have the stamina, to kayak across the interconnected ponds to the village of Menemsha
